Biography

Emily Fisher, Ph.D., is a professor in the department of Specialized Programs in Professional Psychology. She teaches courses in the School Psychology and Counseling programs on counseling and treatment of emotional and behavioral disorders with a focus on children and adolescents. Dr. Fisher has published extensively on school-based supports for LGBTQ youth. Her most recent book, Counseling Special Populations in Schools, addresses strength-based approaches to build resilience among highly marginalized young people, including those who are homeless, living in foster care, and involved in the juvenile justice system. Dr. Fisher is also interested in methods to develop cultural humility among pre-service professionals. Her experience working in clinical, juvenile justice, and school settings informs her work.
